It’s been awhile…

The past few weeks (since school started actually) I have been rather reluctant to use my tumblr at all. I haven’t even logged on voluntarily for over a month, but today I really have to. Today I was given possibly some of the worst news I’ve ever had to hear. The rumors are true: this is the last year that the Advanced Studies Academy will exist, period. There is no going back, there is no arguing, there is no “let’s try to keep it up”, it’s done.

To this I have three things to say:

1. I am truly, truly sorry for those of you who will not be able to finish out high school with the experiences which the rest of us have been permitted. I realize this year isn’t even ideal for those of us who are passionate about our education, so I do have sympathy for my fellow seniors as well as all the underclassmen who will be missing out on so much.

2. What is left of this year must, and I mean MUST, be absolutely spectacular. I am not the kind of person that lies down and dies when life gets hard, and this is about as close as it is going to get. The song “Live Like You’re Dying” by The Script has inspired me since the day I heard it, and I think that it applies now more than ever because quite frankly, we are dying. I had expectations for this year already, but after learning this I know that I should be doing even more, but I need as much help as I can get because I shouldn’t be the only person left at CHS with any ASA pride.

3. I realize that this is it, but I personally have always and will always consider myself, my peers, and our incredible teachers representatives of the Advanced Studies Academy. From day one of my freshman year I have been ASA; I’ve been raised by ASA’s incredible teachers and met the greatest group of people I could have ever hoped to have had the pleasure of learning with. You guys are my family, and this academy has shaped me more than it will ever know. I love you guys, so it is with the most enlightened of minds that I must thank each and every one of my academy’s distinguished students and faculty.

I could not have imagined my life without ASA, so aid me in ensuring that our last year is one to remember. Thank you.

When you’re hurt and scared for so long, your fear and pain turn to hate and the hate starts to change the world.
